In "Private Fire," Sokka goes AWOL from the Fire Nation army after secretly infiltrating it, but the soldiers of the Fire Nation are aware of Sokka's bolting and go hot on Sokka's trail. A list of this volume's episodes with short synopses, and the Avatar: The Last Airbender mini-comic, "Private Fire: Part 3 of 4" are inserted.

Score: 7 out of 10 Packaging and Extras The series is packaged in a black plastic clamshell case. The music and sound mix all come out clear for the DVD. Dante Brasco, as Zuko, demonstrates the ability to speak in more than the usual brooding tone. Jack De Sena's Sokka is still in great form as the show's comic relief and continues to handle the more dramatic moments with Zuko and his father. This volume is definitely a nice volume for the voice actors to show their range and talent. Score: 8 out of 10 Languages and Audio The sole English language track is in 2.0 stereo. The action sequences especially in "The Day of Black Sun" and "The Boiling Rock" look very well done and intense for a kids' animated show. All the animation and colors look good, and there are not any problems with artifacts.

Score: 8 out of 10 Video and Presentation The episodes are presented in full screen. This provides an interesting change of pace, but does not affect the storyline in a negative way. Aang, the hero of the series, barely appears in these episodes. Of course, Zuko knows a thing or two about struggling to regain honor. Zuko seeks to help Sokka regain his honor, since Sokka feels responsible for the failure of the invasion of the Fire Nation. The two-part "The Boiling Rock" special does do a good job in establishing a strong relationship between Zuko and Sokka. You think Sokka would have wondered what happened to Suki, considering Azula, Ty Lee, and Mai infiltrated the Earth Nation posing as the Kiyoshi warriors. The problem with the Suki plot is that Suki and the Kiyoshi warriors were all but forgotten until Azula mentions Suki's capture and imprisonment in the second part of "The Day of Black Sun". The fate of Suki and the Kiyoshi warriors is finally revealed as fans have been left to wonder since season 2, what happened to Suki. However, just because a story element is predictable does not necessarily make an event the story is building towards bad. The turning point for Zuko seems like the plot element was altered only to make Zuko's significant change less predictable. Although the creators feel differently, the lack of change in at the end of season two came off as rather cheap after everything that happened. Zuko finally turns to the side of good, despite the late transformation. "The Day of Black Sun" turned out to be a major failure for the heroes, but this DVD volume does provide a lot of the more satisfying conclusions and explanations that the series has been building up to for quite some time. The next two episodes are a two-parter in which Zuko and Sokka form the most unlikely duo imaginable in order to liberate Sokka's girlfriend, Suki, and Sokka's father from a maximum security Fire Nation prison. After the group licks its wounds, Aang and Zuko must return to the source of all firebending in order for Zuko to regain his firebending abilities and to kick start Aang's firebending training. Despite the fact that tensions are running high, the current Avatar and his teammates cautiously take Zuko into the group. After several seasons of buildup, Zuko has decided to join Aang in order to help Aang overthrow his father and bring peace to the world. In the process though, Aang and his friends gain an unlikely new ally named Zuko, the son of Firelord Ozai. As events usually unfold in Avatar, nothing really works out quite the way it should, and Aang must flee the Fire Nation in defeat. Unfortunately, Ozai is nowhere to be found in his palace, and the time for the eclipse is running out. In "The Day of Black Sun", Aang and his allies sought to strike the heart of the Fire Nation at its weakest point - when a rare solar eclipse stops all firebending abilities. This group of episodes features part 2 of the "Day of Black Sun" special, two stand alone episodes, and another two part episode special, "The Boiling Rock." The DVD features episodes 11-15 of season 3 for the hit Nickelodeon animated series. Although none of the episodes have yet to broadcast on Nickelodeon, Avatar, The Last Airbender, Book 3: Fire – Volume 3 is now available for purchase.
